i haven’t known the world in any complete or settled way, not in the way people speak about it as if it can be held, understood, concluded. it has always felt partial in my hands, something i move through rather than something i arrive at, and perfect has never belonged to me either. it feels distant, almost artificial, like an idea polished too smooth to exist anywhere near my body. most days still carry a kind of unfamiliar weight, like a language i almost understand but cannot fully speak, something forming at the back of my throat, pressing forward, then dissolving before it becomes sound. and still, despite all of that, there are moments where everything i have ever wanted gathers itself close, not completely, not in a way that promises to stay, but close enough for me to feel it in my chest, in my breath, in the quiet tension of being alive. so i let myself remain there, at least for a while. to be naive, if that is what it is called. not as a lack of knowing, but as a refusal to rush into certainty, to cut things open just to make them easier to name.

creative direction for sōl et terre still life

i have learned that not everything honest can survive explanation, that some things lose their shape the moment i force them into clarity. and i no longer feel the same urgency to reduce what i feel into something more acceptable, more measured, more controlled. there is something deeply human, something necessary, in allowing a feeling to exist before deciding what it means. i remember being told that feelings are unreliable, that love is unstable, always shifting, always blurred at the edges, and over time i have come to understand the truth in that. things do move, they do change, they rarely hold the exact form i imagine for them. but i have also come to recognize something equally true, that the act of feeling itself, the act of imagining, is not empty or foolish simply because it is uncertain. if something reaches my body before it reaches logic, if it sits in my chest, lingers in my mind, returns uninvited and is still welcomed, then it carries its own kind of validity, even if it does not last, even if it does not resolve. maybe this is where i have been called naive. for believing too quickly, or too deeply, for staying soft where i am expected to harden. but when i look back, everything that has shaped me in any lasting way began in that same openness. the things i once held without proof, the things that felt too distant or too ideal, did not always become what i imagined, but they moved me, altered me, brought me somewhere i would not have reached otherwise. and that, to me, feels real enough to matter. so i keep questioning what it means when something is called too much or too good to be true. too much for who, too good by what measure, too far from which version of reality. if i can imagine something clearly enough to feel it, if it can leave an imprint without ever becoming fully tangible, then it already exists in a way i cannot completely dismiss. not everything needs to become permanent to be meaningful. not everything needs to be proven to be true in the ways people expect and so i no longer see being naive as simply being wrong. it feels closer to a kind of openness that is becoming harder to keep, a willingness to remain available to something that may or may not arrive. it is not blind belief, but a quiet decision not to close every door in anticipation of disappointment. there is risk in that, i know, but there is also a different kind of loss in shutting things down too early, in deciding in advance that nothing will meet me where i am. maybe that is where the real danger lives, not in believing too much, but in learning to believe too little, in protecting myself so completely that nothing can reach me anymore. and i think, for now, i would rather carry the weight of being naive than lose the part of me that still knows how to remain open, even without certainty, even without guarantees.
